The Old Bald Cheater by ~Rednalac:iconRednalac:

As the sand slowly falls
    we rarely loose our way
while wandering nomads
    walk quietly astray
from the simple dirt road
    which all others obey

Rings form inside a tree
    from cradle to casket
these hands spin thoughtlessly
    And cruel truths leave behind
scattered lives like debris

As the old bald cheater
    pushes you down a hill
it may not be sweeter
     but the sun shines still

Author's Comments

This poem is an extended metaphor comparing time to many different things. My favorite of the comparisons is to the "old bald cheater". This was first said by Ben Jonson and I have always appreciated this idea.
